Eric Scheve

Camp Director | Email

Eric is originally from Indianola, IA. He has served in almost every capacity possible at camp prior to being being hired as Site Director in the fall of 2019.  Eric enjoys staying active, along with following his favorite sports teams, the Oakland A’s and Raiders.  He loves being involved in hot air ballooning and is studying towards his pilots certificate.  Need another person for a game or activity, look for Eric, as he is already ready to join in on the fun!  “I love camping and retreat ministries because of the people i’ve gotten to know and the countless memories we make in such an amazing place.”

Phil Bargfrede

Program Coordinator  |  Email

Phil spent the majority of his childhood growing up in Rock Rapids, Ia before he and his family moved to Ankeny in 2001. Prior to the move Phil was a camper at LOUMC for six summers. He often says, “it is such an honor to be part of an organization that played such an important role in my childhood; I’m ecstatic to be here.” When he is not in the office Phil enjoys spending time with his wife Theresa. Both of them enjoy spending time in the great outdoors or playing board and card games. Hiking, biking, frisbee golf and volleyball are just a few of their favorite outdoor activities. Phil comes to us from Grimes UMC where he was on staff as their Children’s Director for ten and half years.

Chris Samsel

Maintenance Coordinator

Chris has been part of the LOUMC Staff since the summer of 2019.  He is married to his wife Roxanne and they have 3 children and 3 step grandkids.  Chris enjoys restoring classic cars, wood working, motorcycle riding and watching his favorite sports teams (Cubs, Cowboys and Hawkeyes).  Chris enjoys working at camp because he loves being outdoors and working with his hands.  He enjoys the variety of tasks and jobs that come with the job.  Chris says, “I think the camp is great for the youth who attend both for their spiritual growth and socially.  I’m proud to be a small part of that.”
